Little John Lakes – 22nd October 2017

Robin Hood Pool (Bridgeway Shield)

  1. Dave Burton     59lb  2oz
  2. Andy Carr         58lb 10oz
  3. Nic Wort           53lb 14oz

With only 3 matches to go the pressure is on, especially for Nic Wort who was only 10 points clear of Mark Baker. Could this be the year when we have a newly crowned champion?

With high winds from Hurricane Brian continuing to batter the country, using the pole would be difficult today – but that didn’t stop Dave Burton on peg 26. With his back to the wind, he caught against the lilies at 10 metres on the pole for his first RoTAS win of the season, closely followed by Andy Carr off peg 6 who was only 8oz behind in second spot. Nic Wort completed the frame with 53lb 14oz off peg 19 to earn him an important 28 points, stretching his lead at the top to 20 points over current champion Mark Baker with only two matches to go! Can Nic keep his nose in front or will he fold under the pressure? Game on!

There were section wins for Rich Nickels off the flier peg 9 with 52lb 14oz (and 4th place) and Greg Chapman off peg 21 with 39lb 5oz. The Mystery Weight went to Junior member Josh Derry off peg 25 with 18lb 3oz who, I believe, will be one to keep an eye on next season.
