Hawthorn & Chestnut Lakes (Howard Trophy)
- Andy Carr 74lb 0oz
- Barry Stokes 54lb 3oz
- Nic Wort 35lb 5oz
With a high turnout again of 24 anglers, this match was run over two of the pools at Willow Lakes – Chestnut and Hawthorn. Chestnut Lake is not considered to be as strong as Hawthorn, so only 8 anglers were placed on Chestnut.
Andy Carr drew next to the flier on Hawthorn so he was always in with a chance of framing today but, when a carp snatched his top two out of his hand, Andy wasted no time in jumping off his box and chasing the carp round the lake on foot till he got to Colin Elliot’s peg. Colin retrieved it and gave Andy his top two back – for a small fee we believe?!! Back at his peg, Andy put his pole away, got his tip out and caught well all day, netting 74lb of carp off peg 16 for the win. Meanwhile on Chestnut Lake, Barry Stokes got off to a flier on fancied peg 10 catching 30lb in the first hour. He then latched into a duck on the feeder, spooking all the carp in his swim, but still managed to weigh in a net of 54lb 3oz for second in the match.
Nic Wort was on unfancied peg 9 on Hawthorn and had a next peg tussle with Craig Foulds on peg 10. Nic just managed to sneak in front with a double figure carp to beat Craig by 1½ pounds and so secure third place.
Sections were won by Dave Burton on Chestnut peg 6 with 25lb 5oz and Craig Foulds on Hawthorn peg 10 with 33lb 13oz
Nic Wort also beat John Farrow in the KO cup to face either Barry Stokes or Gary Pilsworth in the semi-final.
