Ash & Chestnut Lakes (Spall Cup)
- Mike Atherton 77lb 8oz
- Andy Carr 54lb 12oz
- Barry Stokes 53lb 2oz
This match was spread over Ash and Chestnut lakes and, after taking advice from the locals, who had indicated that Chestnut was the weaker lake, more of the 17 anglers who took part were pegged on the Ash pool. The weather was warm and there were plenty of fish cruising around the surface.
Mike Atherton won his second match of the season from ‘in form’ peg 9 on Ash, this being the same peg that had won the match on the previous day. Mike fished three paste lines and caught steadily on each throughout the match.
Andy Carr took second place having drawn just two pegs away from Mike, on Ash 7. Andy also caught his fish on paste and his 54lb 12oz was enough to knock Bernard Robinson out of the KO Cup.
Barry Stokes completed the frame and was ‘top rod’ on the Chestnut lake. He was on peg 6 and caught a few carp on the feeder before catching more steadily on pellet fished shallow.
